The SU Student Support (SUSS) team at Teesside University Students' Union (TUSU) retained the nationally recognised Advice Quality Standard (AQS). The AQS is run by The Advice Services Alliance and independently audits a wide range of services providing advice for the quality and accuracy of the printed information and face to face contact that they provide.

Best Bar None Awards 2019

Teesside University Students' Union (TUSU) secured a gold Best Bar None (BBN) accreditation and shared second place for their venue The Terrace in 2019. The nationally recognised accreditation scheme is supported by the Home Office and The National Union of Students (NUS). The accreditation is awarded after independent auditors from BBN analyse the staff training, management and licensed trade practices of a venue.

Teesside is one of only a few universities in the UK to have been awarded the nationally recognised Customer First accreditation for its services to business.

This is the eighth time that Teesside has received the Customer First standard, which lasts for two years. Each time it is reaccredited, the University must demonstrate how it has continuously improved.

  • The median nominal salary for working-age postgraduates (£45,000) was £5,000 more than for working-age (those aged 16 to 64) graduates (£40,000) in 2023.
  • 78.9% of postgraduates were in high-skilled employment, compared with 67% of working-age (those aged 16 to 64) graduates and 23.7% of non-graduates.
  • The median salary of graduates was £6,500 more than non-graduates in 2023 (average earnings, to the nearest £500).

Investors in People Gold accreditation

Teesside University was awarded Gold accreditation against the Investors in People (IiP) Standard in 2021.

The University first achieved IiP recognition in 1999, gaining Bronze status in 2008 and Gold status in 2011, 2014 and again in 2018.

Over 90 years of teaching and learning

Originally founded as Constantine College, the institution was officially opened by the Prince of Wales, the future King Edward VIII, on 2 July 1930. The college became a polytechnic in 1969; and in 1992, the Privy Council gave approval to 14 higher education institutions, including Teesside, to become new universities.

Teaching Excellence Framework 2023

Teesside University was awarded an overall rating of Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023. We were also awarded Gold for student experience and Gold for student outcomes.

The TEF is a national scheme run by the Office for Students (OfS) that aims to encourage higher education providers to improve and deliver excellence in the areas that students care about the most: teaching, learning and achieving positive outcomes from their studies.

TEF Gold means that the student experience and outcomes that we deliver are typically outstanding.

The TEF assesses undergraduate courses and the outcomes from TEF 2023 will last for four years from September 2023.
