FAQs

When are the 2025 graduation Ceremonies?

There are two graduation programmes taking place on Middlesbrough Campus in 2025. The spring ceremonies take place in the week commencing 19 May. The summer ceremonies spread across the weeks commencing 7 and 14 July.

Which ceremony programme will I be invited to?

Graduation ceremonies have been split this year due to the volume of students we are expecting to graduate this summer.

May 2025

These ceremonies will include students who have been awarded prior to 31 January 2025 and selected students awarded in February 2025 from School of Arts & Creative Industries (SACI), School of Computing, Engineering & Digital Technologies (SCEDT) and School of Social Sciences & Law (SSSHL).

July 2025

Remaining students from Teesside University International Business School (TUIBS) and School of Health & Life Sciences (SHLS) awarded in February 2025 plus all students who are due to complete their course in academic year 2024/5 before 28 June 2025. All students who have already been awarded after 28 June 2025 and have not yet attended graduation. All those who opted to defer their graduation by formal request in 2024.

What is pre-registration?

Pre-registration is an e-Vision process. You will be emailed in early March to let you know that pre-registration is open. Your e-Vision graduation page will say whether you have been assigned to a May or July ceremony programme, and we ask you to confirm whether you are wishing to attend a ceremony within that programme. We also give you the opportunity to let us know if you wish to defer, or not attend a ceremony. At this stage we don't tell you the exact date and time of your ceremony as this depends on how many people re-register. We create a detailed ceremony schedule once pre-registration has closed.

If you believe you should have received an email regarding attending a graduation ceremony and you have not, please contact Student Records by logging an enquiry in UNIverse or emailing records@tees.ac.uk.

Why do I need to pre-register?

Pre-registration is an essential step and you must complete it if you want to attend your graduation. If you don't complete pre-registration you will be unable to attend graduation.

When does pre-registration close?

4.00pm on 28 March 2025.

When will I find out the date and time of my ceremony?

When pre-registration closes, we will create a ceremony schedule that will include the date and time of your ceremony. Once this is ready you will receive another email asking if you would like to book tickets to your specific ceremony. This will happen in mid-April.

If I choose to defer when will the next graduation be held?

If you choose to defer your place, the next scheduled ceremonies are expected to be in the 2025/26 academic year - actual dates will be confirmed closer to the time.

I have pre-registered, when do I book guest tickets and make other graduation arrangements?

You don't need to do anything else at the moment. Wait until you receive an invitation to book tickets for your specific ceremony. During ticket booking you will have the opportunity to request guest tickets and tell us about any specific requirements you may have.

Other arrangements such as hiring a gown and photography should wait until your place at graduation has been confirmed. You will receive confirmation of your attendance once your results have been released.

I am still waiting for my results? / I haven't yet been awarded?

The majority of students eligible to graduate in July will not have received their final results yet. If you have not yet received your award or are awaiting results, you will still be asked to pre-register and book tickets. This is due to the very tight timescales following the release of your results and the date of your ceremony. If you haven't received your results, your confirmation of attendance at graduation will shortly follow your results release.

When is my attendance guaranteed?

All students wishing to graduate need to pre-register first. You will then be invited to book tickets once your ceremony date and time has been released. You will receive confirmation of your attendance once your results have been released to you.

Once you have your attendance confirmation you can book your gown, photography and make travel arrangements.

If your results are not due to be released to you until late June, then your confirmation email will arrive in early July.

What happens if I have an outstanding debt?

If you have an outstanding academic debt you will NOT be eligible to attend the graduation ceremonies. You will also not be able to receive your award certificate and you will not be included in the awards brochure.
Check your account and make payments

You can pre-register but should ensure you have a payment plan in place which will ensure all of your tuition fees and academic debt is paid ahead of your graduation.

I cannot find the answer I'm looking for, I need some more help, what should I do?

Please log an enquiry in UNIverse or email graduationtickets@tees.ac.uk.

I'm an international student and need to return to the UK to attend my Graduation Ceremony. Can I request a support letter to assist with an application for a Standard Visitor Visa for myself and my dependents?

Support letters are not required as there are alternative documents available for this purpose. We recommend that you use your Graduation ceremony booking acknowledgment email and Proof of Award letter which will become available to you once your award has been released. This applies to your own and dependants' visa applications, these documents will also need to be presented for any dependants linked to their application.

These documents do clearly state that you were a student here, what you studied, and the dates you were enrolled with us, along with your graduation ceremony booking acknowledgment confirming the date, location, time, and how many guests you intend to join you at your ceremony. These documents in conjunction with one another do provide a lot of detail about the reasons for your visit and do also apply to your dependant's visa applications.

Guidance on applying for a Standard Visitor Visa

I am an international student. What happens if my Student Visa expires before the ceremony?

You must ensure that you make arrangements to leave the UK on or before your current visa expiry date (unless you are planning to extend your current visa or switch into another permissible immigration category on or before this date).

If you wish to apply to return to the UK to attend your Graduation Ceremony at a later date, you can apply to return on a Standard Visitor Visa. A Standard Visitor Visa allows you to visit the UK for up to 6 months. The application fee is currently £115.00 and the earliest you can apply is 3 months before you travel.

Further information is available on the Gov.uk website, including a list of supporting documents.
More about Standard Visitor Visa

The processing time for a standard UK visitor visa is generally around three weeks, however, this can vary depending on the country from which you are applying and the current volume of applications.
