Thank you to our donors

Our donors come from all walks of life and their gifts are used to support the University in many ways. They can allow us to respond flexibly to the area of greatest need, or they may be directed to areas of the University which reflect specific concerns, passions and interests. We thank all our donors for their generosity and continuing support to Teesside.

The funding we received tremendously assisted us in spending two weeks in India with the charity 'Schoolhouse' where we provided voluntary dental treatment and education to over 1300 children (and their staff/carers) from the poorest communities in numerous schools and orphanages.

The placement in India enhanced both my clinical and interpersonal skills and abilities. I gained a vast amount of experience in a very unusual and challenging setting which I believe made me a better dental therapist and all-round better person having seen and experienced what I did. The trip enabled me to learn more about global health issues and dental traditions in other countries.

Being a third-year university student, I was struggling to raise enough funds for the trip fees, flights, visas and vaccinations. I raised some money myself via bake sales, raffles, quiz nights and sponsors but then discovered about the Student Experience Fund and was fortunately successful in applying for £750 to help fund my charity visit to India. I was (and am) extremely grateful to Teesside University for providing me with this additional funding.

We can support more life changing experiences, making a wider positive contribution through our Enrichment Opportunities Fund.

Amy Jury, BSc Dental Hygiene & Dental Therapy, 2016

It remains a true honour to be a recipient of the Cecil M Yuill Foundation Prize: Achievement in any field. In September I will begin my first full-time teaching post at another local sixth form college and the support this prize provided was significant in making this possible. They have aided oneself together with other beneficiaries of this award to progress into their respective careers and drive prosperous change to our society!

The Cecil M Yuill Foundation have generously donated to Teesside for over 30 years to acknowledge student achievement.

Isaac Smith, Bachelor of Law (LLB Hons) 2023

The financial support the Marjorie Hearnshaw Scholarship provided me with during my studies was of huge benefit, as it allowed me to fully focus my time on the course and really get the most out of my degree. Being selected for the scholarship was also a massive confidence boost, and motivated me to push myself even further. Since finishing university I have joined McLaren Formula 1 Team as a graduate, where I have had the opportunity to work on some of the most advanced machines in the world and with the very latest engineering technology.

Alumnus, James Douglas Hearnshaw left a gift in his will to Teesside to implement a scholarship programme.
