This is an introduction to animation and visual effects if you have little or no previous experience. You explore 3D animation and visual effects process: animation, modelling, texturing, lighting, rendering and compositing.

Course overview

You learn through online video tutorials and live demonstrations. Online tutorials are available prior to the sessions.

This course is delivered online. Please check the entry requirements tab before making your application to ensure you meet the entry criteria and have all the minimum equipment necessary to take part.

Winter university

Start date: Starts Monday 20 January, Mondays for eight weeks, 6.00pm-9.00pm

You can study up to 30 credits at Winter University and you can select up to three modules on the same application form. If you would like to add a module later, or change one of your choices, then please email winter.university@tees.ac.uk.

Age restriction
Due to the content and delivery of our Winter University courses, it is advised that applicants are aged 16+ at the time of enrolment. If you are under 18 at the time of enrolment you must provide a completed parental consent form. How you are assessed

You submit a portfolio of videos to demonstrate your understanding of techniques covered in the classes.

The assessment is provided at the start of the course.

Minimum software requirements
- Autodesk Maya (available free for students)
- Nuke (non-commercial available free)
- Adobe Photoshop or Gimp (open source)

Check the hardware requirements outlined on the Autodesk Maya website to ensure you can run the software.

As this is an online course you need access to a computer and be comfortable learning through an online platform. A strong and stable internet connection is required, and a webcam and microphone to participate in any interactive elements of the course.

International applicants must have an IELTS overall score of 5.5 or higher.
