A massage for ChildLine

19 September 2003

Five students from the University of Teesside will be helping runners raising funds for ChildLine on Sunday’s Great North Run by offering a free massage service at the end of the race.

The five students Mark Huitson, Janis Oliver, Eric Leech, Laura Muckle And Gillian Russell are all on the BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy course, which covers the prevention, treatment and management of sports injuries. The students are experienced in a wide-range of hands-on therapies and injury treatments.

Andy Cunningham, course leader, said: “We received a call from ChildLine asking us if some of our students would be willing to help out runners who have completed the Great North Run for ChildLine. Of course, we were delighted to be asked, and I had no trouble in finding five volunteers.

“The runners can be assured that our students will do a good job and I’m sure they will notice the difference the day after the race. We’ll be around the finish line and the ChildLine runners will be able to recognise us by our University of Teesside T-Shirts.”
