PR boost for University

18 May 2004

The University of Teesside’s BA (Hons) Public Relations degree has received the official approval of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR) - the professional body which works to raise standards within the PR industry.

Maria Hopwood, course leader, said: “Getting the IPR approval is like the kite mark - a recognition of the quality and standing of the course. It will give graduates the edge when applying for jobs as it is recognised by PR practitioners world-wide and students can apply for student membership of the profession, which means that they will be able to network with practitioners in the work place. They will have access to specialist career advice and employment information and will also be able to get up-to-the minute profession-related and practical information.”

Alan Rawel, Institute of Public Relations' Head of Education, said “The IPR works continuously to raise standards in the PR industry through education, training and promoting best practice. We set exacting standards on curriculum, tuition and assessment for our approved courses. The University of Teesside has met all our criteria and their IPR approval is thoroughly deserved.”
