Free course for future officers

17 May 2006

Thinking of applying to be a Police or a Community Support Officer? If so, the University of Teesside can help with a new, free course.

The new Potential Police and Police Community Support Officers Course is an intensive course designed in partnership with Cleveland Police. It introduces the police recruitment process, outlines the principles of modern policing methods and criminal law. In addition, it illustrates how to best complete an application form.

The course runs from Tuesday 11 July to Friday 14 July, from 9.30am – 4.30pm.

Ian Pepper, Principal Lecturer in Law and Policing at the University of Teesside, said: “The law team at the University already work in partnership with Cleveland Police to deliver a foundation degree in police studies for their probationary police officers. The development of a course to help people achieve their ambition of joining the police service seemed a natural progression.”

Inspector Mark Thornton of Cleveland Police said: “Policing is a demanding but very rewarding career choice. This course gives potential candidates the opportunity to get a small taste of the recruitment process.”
