An imaginative Friday night at the University

31 January 2012

An international competition from Microsoft is now seeking innovative entries, and information on how to take part is available in a taster evening at Teesside University on Friday 3 February.

A speaker from Microsoft will give details on how to compete for the renowned Imagine Cup, where students work in teams of four to help solve some of the world's most challenging problems through technology.

The evening will be held in Room M6.07, Middlesbrough Tower, from 5.30pm to 8.00pm. In addition to information about the competition, free food and drinks will also be available. The evening is part of a regional tour sponsored by Codeworks and Sunderland Software City.

Problem solving technologies

Some of last year's entries included projects that reduced road deaths, minimised malaria outbreaks and helped the visually impaired. The competition’s 2012 theme is inspired by the eight United Nations Millennium Development Goals, with entrants tasked to create and submit a project motivated by the slogan: ‘Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems.’

Students who would like to compete or register their interest, can sign up at Imagine Cup Northeast web site

Then they should come along to the Friday event to learn more and to form their teams at Amiando website

More information about the competition is also available at both Facebook and Twitter@imaginecupne
