Combining work and study pays dividends for Anthony

03 January 2001

Learning and earning has proved a successful combination for Anthony Stubbs, as he has graduated from the University of Teesside with a BEng (Hons) degree in Manufacturing Systems with Business and received a prestigious academic prize. Anthony, 25, of Salcombe Way, Redcar, gained the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Prize, awarded for the best final year project by a student on an institution of mechanical engineers accredited course.

Anthony is working as a Project Engineer for Tetley GB Ltd in Eaglescliffe, Stockton. He first joined the company during his placement year at University. At the end of his placement year Tetley offered him a permanent contract, and he combined work and study to complete the final year of his degree. Anthony said: “I had to be organised with my time, but working at Tetley was invaluable for my final year project, where I researched a particular problem on-site. Providing solutions to the problem was enjoyable. ”

Former Sacred Heart Comprehensive and Teesside Tertiary College student Anthony is the first in his family to graduate from University. He said: “My parents Patrick and Patricia are extremely pleased.”

Anthony is aiming to continue his studies in the future, by enrolling for a Masters degree in Business Administration.
