Teesside University sets up business support base at Wilton Centre

Teesside University has opened an office at the Wilton Centre to build on its strong networks with businesses there.

The new premises mean it can now offer ready access to its innovation services for tenant businesses located at the privately-run business and science park between Middlesbrough and Redcar that neighbours the Wilton site.

Members of the University’s business team will be on hand on a regular basis to help companies with specialist expertise, training, recruitment, facilities and global networks.

They can also help with sourcing funding to support continued growth. Senior Business Development Manager Jennifer Wayman said: 'Whether a business is looking to discuss a specific challenge, up-skill existing staff, advertise a new vacancy or simply grow, we’re inviting anyone to drop in to see if we can provide a spark of inspiration.' Teesside University has already worked with many companies at Wilton Centre, including Guardian Marine Testing (GMT).

Andrew Shaw, GMT’s Managing Director, says: 'It has been a real benefit working with Teesside University.

'It has allowed us not only to have assistance in looking at a most important factor but also to gain a valuable resource at a reasonable cost which, from day one, has contributed to our operations.' A member of the University’s Business Team will be based at Wilton Centre every Wednesday to provide advice and assistance to tenants.

The ease of access to specialist business advice is a huge benefit, according to Wilton Centre Site Director Steve Duffield.

He added: 'Teesside University is uniquely geared up to supporting business and has a great track record of engaging with local companies. The university’s new office means that first-rate guidance and extensive expertise is on tap for anyone in the centre that needs it.

'It is a great service for us to be able to offer our tenants.'
