Legal Mediators to meet at University

22 May 2000

A Mediation Seminar will be held at the University of Teesside on Monday 5 June, from 6pm-7.30pm, in conjunction with Northern Dispute Resolutions (NDR). The seminar will be held in the University’s Innovation & Virtual Reality Centre Lecture Theatre, Stephenson Street, Middlesbrough (next to the Evening Gazette offices).

NDR were formed five years ago by a group of professionals, including surveyors, accountants, engineers and lawyers, to promote Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), a means of solving disputes out of court. The most common form of ADR is mediation, where a dispute is hopefully resolved with the assistance of a mediator. The Lord Chancellor, Lord Irvine of Lairg, has recently announced his intention to raise public awareness on the importance of mediation.

Guest speakers will include Judge Michael Taylor, a leading North-East circuit judge, who will discuss the merits of mediation.

Derek Elsey, Head of the University of Teesside’s Legal Services Department said: "The University is delighted to have been able to facilitate this seminar, which demonstrates the value and importance of this forward-thinking method of dispute resolution."

A wine and cheese reception will be held at 5.30pm, before the Seminar starts at 6pm.

For more details on the seminar contact Ronald Bradbeer at Eversheds Solicitors, Middlesbrough on 01642 247456.
