Ray Sheahan retires from EPICC

02 May 2001

Dr Ray Sheahan is retiring from his role as Chief Executive of the European Process Industries Competitiveness Centre (EPICC) at the end of this month (May).

Now well established as a partnership between the University of Teesside and the process industry, EPICC is seen as having an important role in delivering the Regional Economic Strategy.

Dr Sheahan has been Chief Executive of EPICC since 1995. He joined the University from Zeneca, where he was general manager of Zeneca Bio Products for five years, and before that general manager of Zeneca Diagnostics in the United States. He also worked for ICI Biocides.

Mr Sandy Anderson, Chairman of EPICC, said: “Ray’s contribution has been immense and his knowledge of the industry and its needs will be sorely missed, but Ray has concluded that given the completion of the first phase of funded projects and the start of a very new phase with the SRB 6 project; then this was probably the optimum time to make the break. He has done the job exceptionally well over the last five years and we all wish him well as he moves on to fresh challenges.”

Dr Sheahan commented: “EPICC was established to help improve the competitiveness of the process industries and I would like to thank all colleagues for their support. I look forward to new projects in my retirement, including increased involvement as a mentor for the Prince’s Trust.”
