Share memories, stories and memorabilia of the iconic radar domes, which dominated the landscape of the North York Moors between 1963 and 1994 when they were demolished. The geodesic domes were a space age design innovation by the architect Buckminster Fuller. They surrounded the radar dishes at RAF Fylingdales, which tracked satellites in Earth orbit and watched for signs of nuclear attack.
The construction of RAF Fylingdales employed people across Teesside and the North York Moors region, and documented by Teesside photographer Denis Wompra. This event will provide an opportunity to the Fylingdales Archive growing collection of Northeast England’s space heritage at RAF Fylingdales. This event is part of Teesside University's 2024 festival Hub programme
