Teesside University is a friendly, town-centre campus in Middlesbrough, North East England, which is home to around 23,000 students. We’re in easy reach of city life, the coast and countryside – whatever you like doing, you have some great options to help you feel at home here.
Middlesbrough is an affordable place to live. You find that housing, eating out and shopping in this region is much easier on your student budget than in other areas of the UK.
Travel between Teesside and Northern Ireland is easy and inexpensive, especially when you book in advance. Most students choose to fly, but the ferry is also a great option. A range of places are easily accessible from Teesside with both London and Edinburgh around three hours away on the train.
From the working docks of the Tees Estuary to the area's vibrant towns and glorious countryside, this is a place where old and new, urban and rural, and culture and commerce converge. We've got top surf, a national park on the doorstep plus unique shopping and culture, bars and famous clubs.
We offer a range of courses across our five academic schools: School of Arts & Creative Industries; School of Computing, Engineering & Digital Technologies; School of Health & Life Sciences; School of Social Sciences, Humanities & Law; and Teesside University International Business School.
We also have an updated gym with cardio and resistance fitness and free weight equipment. Use the 30m sprint track, multipurpose studios, all-weather pitch and specialist treatment area. Student membership is currently £40 a semester and the gym is open seven days a week.
Our Students’ Union is run by students, for students. You become a member as soon as you enrol at University – no forms, money or membership cards needed. The Students’ Union is a hive of activity, events and fun with places to eat, drink, socialise, shop, and get support and advice if you need it. It also provides a fantastic range of active sports clubs and special interest societies including archery, futsal, climbing and cheerleading, as well as music, LGBTQ+, airsoft, literature, Dr Who and battle re-enactment. There's also a job service to help you find part-time work.
All our accommodation is either on-campus or within a five-minute walk. We have very affordable University-managed accommodation and students can choose from houses, flats, apartments and en-suite rooms. Accommodation is guaranteed for all first-year students.
In 2020 we invested £21.4m to develop Cornell Quarter, providing contemporary on-campus accommodation just a short walk from our Campus Heart.
Getting involved in a club or society is a great way of meeting new people and making friends. At Teesside University we have more than 30 sports clubs to get involved in, including rugby, powerlifting, snow sports, hockey, boxing, rowing and Teesside Football Academy - men's and women's teams available.
There are more than 40 societies, with no limit on how many you can join. Explore societies in themes such as Disney, knitting, Harry Potter, pilates and more. You could also join a society for your course or subject area. If there isn't a society that you fancy joining, you can just set up your own.
At Teesside University we’re committed to sexual orientation equality and value the rich diversity in our community. We have an LGBTQ+ society and LGBTQ+ focus groups. And the University and Students’ Union arrange LGBTQ+ events throughout the year, including attendance at Northern Pride and LGBTQ+ history month. Teesside University has achieved a 'Silver' award in 2022. Stonewall's Diversity Champion programme provides us with access to a wide range of support and resources to ensure we are an inclusive and supportive place to work, study and visit.
