An Introduction to Interior Design

Interior design encompasses function, fashion, colour, light, materials and decoration. You are introduced to the key principles and language of interior design – from interpreting the brief to realising and communicating creative ideas.

No previous knowledge is assumed and you are encouraged to explore a range of ideas, processes and methods while you complete a negotiated personal project.

- the stages of a professional interior design project
- contexts of contemporary interior design
- the creative process and concept development
- using colour, lighting, scale and materials
- exploring the using of space, planning and circulation
- project presentations and reflective summary.

How you are assessed

You are assessed through the development and presentation of your personal project (100%).

 

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

You should be competent in Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint. Experience of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop) is desirable but not essential. You have access to Adobe Creative Suite for the duration of the course, but this course does not teach how to use industry-standard software. You produce digital mood boards and project work using any of the above software packages. Access to a Pinterest account is desirable.

- standard ruler.

International applicants must have an IELTS overall score of 5.5 or higher.
