Andrew Sugden

As a trustee of the Whitley Bay Rockcliff Rugby Football Foundation, I help oversee fundraising and grant-.making to promote rugby union locally. The Foundation closely supports the Whitley Bay Rockcliff Rugby Football Club. It has funded several initiatives to encourage rugby participation and develop talent in Whitley Bay, such as new goalposts for the high school team, kits for younger players, training for coaches, a community coach working in schools, and financial support for young players.

My duties as a trustee involve liaising with other grant-making foundations who have provided funds for specific projects. Along with other trustees, I advise on the Foundation's grant-making policies to direct resources effectively. We also oversee treasury and investment policies to ensure good stewardship of funds. The trustees meet once or twice per year to formally agree on grant awards aligned with our mission.

As an all-volunteer organisation, the Foundation relies on the trustees to govern its operations and finances. My role requires strategic planning, financial oversight, and developing partnerships to bolster rugby in our community. It is rewarding to invest in the growth of the sport by supporting equipment needs, training, and direct aid to youth and families. I am proud to serve as a trustee to expand opportunities through rugby.
