David Johnson

BA (Hons) Product Design

David is a design manager for Integrated Hydraulic Solutions UK LTD.

There are free workshops, an open door policy, and a big bright studio space - the University is excellent on all accounts. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

How did university help you with your career?

Everything about the course was fantastic. It really set us up for the real world. The lecturer's open door policy was fantastic and we were never made to feel like we were bothering them, they were always happy to help - especially Mark Freary, who had a huge impact on my career.

Why Teesside?

It’s closest to home, but I did initially find out about the place from my old school teacher, he attended in the 1980s.

What are you doing now?

I’m a design manager for Integrated Hydraulic Solutions UK LTD. I design all the machinery and deal with the project as a whole from the beginning to the end, as well as giving after-sales service and support.

My ambition is to set up my own company, I just need to find a niche and get started.

Would you recommend Teesside?

Definitely! There are free workshops, an open door policy, and a big bright studio space, the University is excellent on all accounts. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
