Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

Since leaving school, I have completed all my academic learning while working full-time. Putting practical real-life context to the theory really helps to cement concepts in my mind. The structured approach of an apprenticeship embodying this way of learning was a no-brainer for me.

Favourite thing about your apprenticeship?

I started my apprenticeship while we were still feeling the effects of the pandemic, but the University and my fellow apprentices were able to adapt using technology. Going back to university in my forties to undertake an MBA was daunting. However, it was comforting that the rest of my cohort were in a similar position. I met people from a wide range of industries and the support from peers, academic staff and the apprentice team made my journey enjoyable.

What do you think about the campus and the services offered?

The facilities are great, but the greatest benefit to my learning experience was the digital resources. Having the ability to access academic literature, textbooks and journal articles through Blackboard from any location with an internet connection, at any time, was invaluable. Having a full-time career and a young family puts pressure on your time, but having this huge resource available certainly relieved some of the pressure.

What are your ambitions for your career as a result of the apprenticeship?

I have recently moved jobs after over a decade at one of the UK’s major port operators. I hope to continue my learning and development journey. While supporting TT Club’s mission to make the global transport and logistics industry safer, more secure and more sustainable.

Would you recommend your apprenticeship?

Absolutely. Full-time further education isn’t an option for everyone. Consider your personal circumstances and career goals and determine what is best for you. Give yourself the best chance to get the most out of the learning and growth opportunities of an apprenticeship.
