Why did you choose Teesside?

I chose Teesside University primarily due to the lecturer's lived-experience in the aviation and tourism world. Their invaluable industry experience offered insights rooted in real-workplace knowledge. Moreover, I appreciated the university's proximity, allowing me to continue living at home while pursuing higher education, a balance that felt right for me as I transitioned from college to university.

What did you like most about your course?

What I appreciated most about my course was the flexibility it offered in applying the learning to various sectors of the industry. Some modules focused more on tourism, while others emphasised aviation, providing a comprehensive understanding of both fields. This equipped me with valuable knowledge that prepared me for the next stage of my career. Additionally, the opportunity to connect with key professionals from airports, airlines, and tourism businesses early on was instrumental in helping me build industry relationships.

Thoughts on the facilities and teaching staff?

I liked the blend of environments. Much of the learning took place at Stockton Riverside College, offering a familiar and less intimidating setting, complemented by regular visits to the Middlesbrough campus at Teesside University. The teaching staff are a standout aspect of my experience. They were approachable and supportive, highly attentive to the interests and needs of each student.

Would you recommend Teesside?

Absolutely, I highly recommend Teesside University. The course offers valuable industry insights and practical learning. One of my key highlights is the strong connection I made with fellow students, many remain my closest friends and professional colleagues in the industry.

What are you doing now?

I’m currently working in the Marketing Department at the Tees Valley Combined Authority. I manage and produce the marketing for Teesside International Airport and Visit Tees Valley. This role combines the skills and experience I gained at Teesside, by marketing in both the aviation and tourism sectors.

Ambitions for the future?

My ambition for the future is to continue within the aviation and tourism industry, gaining experience across a diverse range of areas. One day, once I’ve gathered enough industry expertise, I’d like to transition into teaching, where I can share my knowledge and help shape the next generation of professionals in the field.
