Samuel Smith

BA (Hons) Film and Television Production

Samuel's course has led him back to Teesside to work at the university's radio, Click Teesside.

I would recommend Teesside. The course developed me a lot as a person technically and personally. The lecturers are all friendly and always happy to help out, and of course the area is great for nightlife.

Why did you choose to study film and television production?

I found out about Teesside University through UCAS whilst studying creative media at college. I wanted to study a hands-on course that would help me develop practical skills. I also wanted to work in the film and TV sector, so this course was the perfect fit for me. I decided to come to Teesside because of the facilities they had to offer and because of how impressed I was on the open day I attended.

What is the best thing about your course?

The equipment and training that the University can offer. They have a lot of up to date equipment and like to keep up with trends within the film and TV industry. I also did a six week paid placement while at University.
My favourite modules were the practical ones that allowed you to plan and create content.

What do you think about the campus?

The campus had a great social aspect. The Students’ Union put on some great events and the Library was always open and accessible with friendly staff who were always welcoming.
In my first year, I stayed in University accommodation. It was a great way to help make friends and develop as a person. It also gave me a great idea of who I wanted to live with for the following years.

What has your social life been like?

The social life around Middlesbrough was brilliant. Every night there was an event on and lots to do. The low cost of living is another thing that helped me choose Teesside.

Would you recommend Teesside?

Yes, I would recommend Teesside. The course developed me a lot as a person technically and personally. The lecturers are all friendly and always happy to help out, and of course the area is great for nightlife.

What are you doing now?

I’m currently working as an intern Broadcast Radio Producer at Click Teesside, the university’s radio station. Every day is different, and as well as working on the radio, I also help with the creation of short promotional videos, filming and editing, booking out equipment and many other things. The entire experience has given my CV more value.
