Making a difference at Teesside

31 May 2005

Seventeen children from local primary schools in Redcar will receive certificates after completing four days of events, organised by the University of Teesside’s student volunteers and Redcar Community College’s Primary University. The Primary University is an initiative which sees talented children from local feeder primary schools taking part in activities delivered through the College’s full service extended programme on Saturdays to raise their aspirations and prepare them for secondary school study.

During Making a Difference Week students work with local groups. This week, working with the Primary University pupils they have organised trips to Middlesbrough Football Club, the Life Centre in Newcastle, and Acklam's Nature World as well as taking part in Quad Biking, Go Karting, bowling and trampolining. The children will also take part in a garden makeover at the University’s nursery, furthering the work done by students earlier in the year.

Members of the media are welcome to attend the certificate awarding event at 3pm, Friday 3 June, at the Main Lecture Theatre, Innovation Centre, University of Teesside.
