Juliet’s new University Director role

08 June 2006

Juliet Amos is the University of Teesside’s new Human Resources Director. Juliet, 42, from Lowfell, Gateshead, has come to the University following roles in both private and public sector personnel.

Juliet said: “The University has a modern, inviting campus and everyone has been incredibly welcoming and supportive. I’m very happy to be in such a positive working environment. I enjoy the Higher Education sector; Universities are mini-communities with a wide variety of people and experiences.

“I’m looking forward to establishing the personnel department as a key central support resource for the University’s business. I also want to ensure Personnel’s developments are in line with the University’s core business needs.”

Originally from Neston, The Wirral, Juliet is a graduate of Humberside University, where she achieved a BA (Hons) degree in European Business Studies. The degree involved two years full-time study at the Fachhohschule Munster in Germany.

After University, Juliet joined Debenhams in Manchester as a graduate personnel trainee, progressing to Personnel Manager of the Salisbury store. She returned to education after two years, achieving her Institute of Personnel Development qualifications at Leicester Polytechnic.

Juliet followed this by joining Leicestershire County Council’s training department. She spent five years at the Council, before moving to the University of Northumbria in Newcastle, where she worked in a variety of Personnel roles for 12 years. Her final role at Northumbria was Head of Employment Services.

Away from work, Juliet enjoys cinema, the theatre, eating out and describes herself as an ‘avid Liverpool FC fan.’ She said: “Their victory in the FA cup was fantastic, I was thoroughly thrilled! I’m looking forward to seeing them the next time they play at the Riverside stadium in Middlesbrough.”

Juliet is the daughter of Ken and Pat Powell of The Wirral.
