Family festive fun at Darlington

16 December 2011

Christmas came early at the University’s new Darlington campus, when it hosted an afternoon of free festive family fun for the first time.

This family event offered visitors an opportunity to bring their children to meet Father Christmas and tuck into mince pies and hot chocolate.

The packed programme included:

• Festive craft activities for children. Creating seasonal cards, calendars and tree decorations to add some extra special magic to your home

• A Nativity play and carols performed by local primary school children.

• A tombola to raise much-needed funds for the local hospice

• Staff from our media department talking about iconic Christmas moments in film and music, including a discussion about the Frank Capra classic It’s a Wonderful Life.

Nicola Doyle, the University’s Recruitment Manager, said, 'The festive event at Darlington was a huge success with 86 young people from local schools centre stage. Children from Corporation Road Primary School were a credit to the school with their amazing nativity play which was followed with a range of carols from Darlington Education Village children that made it lively, fun and enjoyed by all parents, teachers and University staff who attended.

'It was so nice to see the University’s first class facilities at the new campus being used for such an exciting and successful community event. We hope it will be the first of many more and are now looking at an Easter event.'
