Passion for games design led Rebecca to Teesside

A passion for games design led Rebecca Arachchiae to study at Teesside University and pursue her ambition to work in the industry.

Rebecca, 21, from Gateshead, graduates from the BA (Hons) Computer Games Design, joining thousands of other Teesside University graduates as they celebrate academic success.

During her studies she was among recipients of a scholarship which included mentorship and financial support, created in partnership with leading games development studio Creative Assembly.

“Teesside University has a strong reputation for innovation and practical learning, with the widest range of courses. I was super intrigued by the game design course,” said Rebecca.

“I wanted to study game design at Teesside University because of its excellent reputation and practical, hands-on approach, along with the links the University has to the industry.

“The course has helped me significantly in my chosen career path by providing a strong foundation in essential skills. The hands-on projects and real-world experiences have prepared me to tackle industry challenges confidently.

"I enjoyed the creative freedom to explore different aspects of game design, from art and storytelling to programming and mechanics, has been both challenging and exciting.

"My career aims are to become a game narrative designer, creating innovative and engaging games and stories that captivate players. I’m looking forward to being able to apply the skills and knowledge I've gained from Teesside University's game design course. My time at Teesside University has been an incredibly enriching experience. The University’s vibrant community and inclusive atmosphere have made it easy to connect with peers and faculty who share my passion for games design. "

Rebecca added: “I have been interested in games design since I was a teenager. I not only enjoy playing video games, but I have always been fascinated by bringing ideas together to create something amazing.

“I’ve been really interested in learning more about the different areas of games design which the course at Teesside covers and also because of the links the University has to the industry.”
