Vivian shared support while studying at Teesside

Support offered to Vivian Nnenna Igwe-Ebi during her Teesside University studies inspired her to get involved in offering help herself in a student ambassador role.

Vivian, from Nigeria, who graduated from the MA International Relations, applied to become a student ambassador after feeling supported by ‘the guys in blue hoodies’.

She said: “Coming to university as an international student can be daunting, without the right support, and it was the guys in blue hoodies, the University’s student ambassadors, who helped me to navigate my way, from registration to finding my lecture venues.

“Their friendly and welcoming demeanour was very helpful in guiding me to find my footing when I started at Teesside. And so, when there was an opportunity to become one myself and help others, I did not hesitate to take it.

“Serving as a student ambassador has been one of the highlights of my academic journey. This role has involved engaging with prospective students and sharing my experiences to help them make informed decisions about their education.”

Vivian, who is now progressing to PhD study, said: “I chose Teesside University due to its outstanding reputation for academic excellence and its innovative educational approach.

“The University's strong focus on applied learning and its commitment to offering a global perspective were particularly appealing. I greatly valued the opportunity to engage with a diverse student body and be part of a dynamic and inclusive community.”

Vivian added: “The lecturers are incredibly supportive and approachable. Their dedication to student success is evident in their willingness to provide guidance and mentorship beyond the classroom.

“I have also cherished the opportunity to interact with students from diverse cultural backgrounds, which has broadened my perspectives and enriched my overall learning experience. I made friends from different cultures around the globe, and it has been fun learning from them and the opportunity to showcase my rich culture to them as well.”
