Double Rainbow Event – Rest and Refresh
Thursday 19th September, 10.00am-3.00pm
Did you know that both LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse communities use rainbow symbols? Our Double Rainbow Rest & Refresh is for those communities, and anyone looking for a lower-key Freshers experience.
LGBTQ+ event
This is a low-stim event with arts and crafts activities and stalls run by organisations, charities, and local businesses who support LGBTQ+ and neurodiversity. Most stalls are run by TU alumni who know the importance of creating an accessible experience. We start the day with an optional LGBTQ+ History walk round Middlesbrough, accompanied by Ember the therapy corgi.
Book on to the LGBTQ+ History walk
Come and join us in the Student Union (first floor), for an accessible, chill experience, and meet some wonderful people, or just do some quiet crafting - whatever works for you.
Double Rainbow Rest and Refresh logo competition
Background:
- Both LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse communities use the rainbow as a symbol.
- Gilbert Baker chose the rainbow to celebrate the beauty of the different identities of LGBTQ+ people coming together.
- The infinity rainbow symbol, and other rainbow symbols, are used to represent pride and inclusion for neurodiverse people
- As Freshers/Welcome Week events can sometimes have a lot of sensory input, we wanted to create a ‘low stim,’ wellbeing-focused event for both communities.
