Armed Forces support

We welcome applications from those in the armed forces and accept enhanced learning credits (ELC) funding for most of our undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

What is Enhanced Learning Credits (ELC) scheme?

Armed Forces CovenantThe Ministry of Defence’s Enhanced Learning Credits (ELC) Scheme promotes lifelong learning amongst members of the Armed Forces.

Providing financial support each year, over three years, the scheme enables higher-level learning of a nationally recognised qualification at Level 3 or above (or approved international equivalent) with an approved learning provider.

You can check your eligibility for ELC funding by speaking to your education or resettlement officer.

  • BSc (Hons) Games Development

Matthew was a Lance Corporal combat medic in the Royal Army Medical Corps in the army, where he served for six years.

I’m looking forward to working on projects independently and with other students in the hope of publishing them, and all being well, I aim to set up my own game studio.

What can I study?

Most of our undergraduate and postgraduate courses are eligible for ELC funding.

How do I apply?

Email armedforces@tees.ac.uk or ring 01642 738801 to discuss your qualifications. Once an initial discussion has taken place, you are offered an advisory consultation with the course tutor to identify if you:

  • meet our standard entry criteria and are eligible to apply through UCAS
  • are required to undertake additional academic qualifications to meet the entry criteria and be advised what course is the most appropriate
  • have qualifications that need to be mapped to the entry criteria
  • have evidence of qualifications, along with transferable skills or work experience, and are a mature applicant.

What if I can’t see the course I want to apply for on the ELC website?

Once you have completed the above steps to check your eligibility, email s.place@tees.ac.uk to request that your course is added to the ELC website.

Is there anything additional I should include in my application?

You are encouraged to state ‘Armed Forces applicant’ at the beginning of your personal statement to enable the admissions team to check you have had an advisory consultation with the course tutor.
