Remembering the Golf Balls

Learn about the geodesic radar domes of RAF Fylingdales, and take part in an epic rebuild of these iconic structures!

The geodesic domes, which dominated the landscape of the North York Moors, were a space age design innovation by the architect Buckminster Fuller. They surrounded the radar dishes at RAF Fylingdales, which tracked satellites in Earth orbit and watched for signs of nuclear attack. During this event, you will learn about the structure of the domes, their role in monitoring space, and take part in a rebuild of the geodesic domes with Fylingdales expert Michael Mulvihill.

The event is particularly suitable for ages 14+. This event is part of Teesside University's 2024 festival Hub programme.
