River Shapes

Explore non-verbal creative responses to art in this workshop led by artist Sam Metz.

Sam Metz’s work Instability (2024), created in response to the River Tees, is part of MIMA’s current exhibition Towards New Worlds. The work examines relations between humans, industry and the natural environment. For Metz, the process of making is akin to stimming: a way to interpret landscapes. Metz is motivated by neuroqueering, the idea of making space for diverse minds and identity expressions that disrupt societal norms.

During the session, you will be invited to explore responses to the River Tees, to landscape and to art by using non-verbal creative methods. This will include forms of drawing and making. Places on this workshop are limited, and would suit people aged 14+. This event is part of Teesside University's 2024 festival Hub programme.
