Placements and internships

Teesside University's placement and internship programmes connect your business with talented students eager to apply their skills and knowledge to real-world challenges. With flexible options ranging from 12-week master's placements to year-in-industry opportunities, you can:

  • harness innovative ideas: students bring fresh perspectives and up-to-date expertise
  • boost capacity: gain additional support for critical projects or busy periods
  • evaluate future hires: treat placements as an extended interview for long-term recruitment.

Here's how it works

Once we receive your application form, we'll advertise the role to suitable students and share their CVs and cover letters with you. You'll then have the opportunity to shortlist candidates and arrange interviews. While we strive to match students with the right opportunities, we cannot guarantee a suitable candidate for every role or project.

Costs and funding

Placements are not funded by the University, but they can be voluntary. If any travel costs are incurred, we expect these to be covered by the company.

Location and flexibility

Interns or placement students can work on-site at your premises or remotely, depending on the needs of your business and the nature of the role.

The placement or internship

A placement, internship, or project should provide students with practical experience relevant to their course of study. The opportunity should align with their developing skills, helping them gain valuable industry insights and hands-on expertise.

Visa sponsorship for international students

Teesside University sponsors student visas throughout the placement period. As part of this process, we conduct regular attendance and engagement checks through fortnightly email confirmations.

Support throughout the process

We assist with recruitment and shortlisting and can offer guidance on structuring a meaningful placement experience that benefits both your business and the student.
