Recruiting talent
Ten Feet Tall is a Middlesbrough-based promoter and brings some of the country’s top comedians, bands and performers to regional venues.
Ten Feet Tall wanted to take their business forward.
They have taken on a range of Teesside University graduate interns to complete specific short-term 12 week projects in a scheme fully funded by Teesside University. The scheme provides new graduates with hands on experience in their first graduate role whilst enabling organisations to access their knowledge, skills and technological know-how to help increase their performance, productivity and competitiveness.
Ten Feet Tall used Teesside University’s recruitment and matching service to find interns to meet their business objectives - an events coordinator, creative communicator and programmer, exhibition and education programme developer, graphic designer and film maker.
Providing fresh thinking, the interns helped to deliver and develop the existing programme, plan and creatively promote events, provide new ideas for future projects and build relationships with new partners. This led to commercial benefits, providing additional programming and revenue.
This opportunity to trial new employees on a short-term basis worked well for the company, and all of the interns continue to work with the company – two in full time roles and the other two on a freelance basis staging art exhibitions and helping manage the company’s social media.
As a result of their positive experience Ten Feet Tall then began hosting a flexible intern, a second year Graphic Design student funded by Teesside University to work in the business regularly as and when required to do undertake graphic design, photography and film work.
The company plan to take on a Masters intern to work on a focused project and possibly a sandwich placement student, to provide them with a year in industry as part of their studies.
