Teesside University has partnered with Binding Solutions Limited (BSL) and Innovate UK to develop an innovative low-carbon composite pellet technology aimed at revolutionising steel production. This collaboration seeks to significantly reduce carbon emissions in the steel industry by introducing a sustainable alternative to traditional iron ore pellets.
The steel industry is a major contributor to global carbon dioxide emissions. To address this environmental challenge, there is a pressing need for innovative solutions that can reduce the carbon footprint of steel manufacturing.
BSL has developed a patented cold agglomeration process that produces high-quality iron ore pellets without the need for high-temperature induration.
In collaboration with Teesside University and Innovate UK, BSL is advancing this technology to further enhance its efficiency and scalability. The partnership focuses on hydrogen operations, reduction chemistry, mineral agglomeration as well as material characterisation and optimisation.
